- Cynar is an Italian bitter liqueur of the amaro variety. It is made from 13 herbs and plants, predominant amongst which is the artichoke, from which the drink derives its name.
- Cynar is dark brown in color, has a bittersweet flavor.
- It was launched in Italy in 1952.
- Cynar can be enjoyed on its own, with ice, or mixed with soda water, orange or lemon slice, cola, eggnog, tonic water, milk, or bitter lemon soda. It can also be used in cocktails like the Cynar Julep or as a substitute for Campari in a Negroni.
- Cynar was invented by Angelo Dalle Molle, a Venetian entrepreneur, and launched in Italy in 1952. The brand's early success was attributed to its TV commercials starring Italian actor Ernesto Calindri on the Italian advertising broadcast show Carosello.
